THE GAZE (Sancho/Sāng Qiū (桑丘) is a cat who lives at Jade Lamb's Cozy Nest. On occasion, a lucky, patient few will be graced with his presence, as he wanders up to the feeder, takes position, and stares at the camera, at you, for upwards of 20 minutes. He knows what you have done and what you will do.

He was first spotted, in his familiar position, on February 17, 2025. He likely was here earlier, though it is possible such a creature predates time itself.

THE GAZE is somewhat similar to Mr. Toupee and Mr. Touposter in appearance, but with a distinctive spot across his eye.

Behavior

THE GAZE has a simple behavior. He approaches the feeder, sits down with his front legs in front of him, wraps his tail around his right leg, and stares. Unblinking, without approaching the food, he transcends the need for worldly posessions. Is he thinking, or in a state of zen? Perhaps he sees the viewer, through the screen, or maybe he simply knows someone is watching and is unpleased by it. Whatever the reason, his thousand yard stare is not only ominous but disconcerting, and potentially dangerous. This behavior must be studied.

He who gazes typically appears on his own. Most cats appear to recognize his pure aura, as they tend to avoid him and don't even sit in front of the feeder together with him like many of the others. He ignores food, ignores other cats, and resists worldly temptation.

Appearance

THE GAZE is a white domestic shorthair with black spots near his back and a large black spot on the top of his head. The black spot on his head makes his appearance somewhat similar to that of Mr. Toupee or Mr. Touposter on first glance from above, but he is noticably bigger and behaves much differently.

Sightings

February 2025

February 17th, 2025: 11:59 AM (LFT) He was seen in position, head just out of frame. He was a little closer to the camera than usual, which is odd. Ms. Reach could be seen in the background, but she kept her distance, knowing what he is capable of. As he loomed there, the last photo we have of this period shows a White Samoyed foolishly approaching him.
February 21, 2025: 8:30 PM (LFT) Seen just barely visible from the back camera, hiding in a basket. Always watching.
February 28th, 2025: 6:00 AM (LFT) In a rare moment of vulnerability, images show his form sprawled out on the right side of the feeder. His stare remains, but his intimidating posture is strikingly absent. Perhaps even he must be vulnerable at some times.

March 2025

March 3th, 2025:8:22 AM (LFT)? A cat that matched the appearance of him was spotted looming over the food bowl as a White Cat with black splotches on both eyes watched, though it is unconfirmed who this may have been.
March 29, 2025: 5:09 AM (LFT) Seen sitting in front of the feeder on his own. He stared at the camera, in typical position, for around 16 minutes before Cheap Carpet jumped up to the feeder, causing THE GAZE to walk away slowly. He clearly would remember this. Cheap Carpet remained there for 18 hours.

March 15, 2025: 6:02 AM (LFT) Seen in typical position, on his own in front of the camera. (photo in info box)
April 23, 2025: 11:24 PM (LFT) Seen in position as usual. Cheap Carpet was in the background, and appeared to have no cognitive activity.
