Brother Stare is a cat from Them-Pearl Meow Meow Hut (TA-珠宝喵喵小屋). He amassed a small fame in China when a video of him staring directly into the camera was posted on Jiemao. This earned him the name of Staring Brother and a Chinese fanbase who often dispense food for him to stare at.

Behavior

Brother Stare's favourite activity is to stare at the feeder intently. He seems fascinated by the inner workings and will put his face up to the dispenser when food is dropped and paw at it. Sometimes, he tries to catch the food in mid-air. He will paw at the snacks but overall seems to prefer the kibble.

When faced with other cats, Brother Stare is unfazed by them and will continue staring at the dispensers. He will try to push past them if they block his ability to stare, but will surrender the feeder if the cat is unwilling to move.

Appearance

Brother Stare is a silver tabby with dark grey stripes. He has big yellow eyes and a dark pink nose. There are multiple cats at the shelter who look similar to Brother Stare - fortunately, he has a large chip in his left ear (possibly from TNR) which allows for easy identification.

Sightings

October 2024

October 1, 2024: In the daytime, Brother Stare made his big debut when he stared into the feeder's front camera, looking flabbergasted. He sniffed curiously at the bowl.
October 28, 2024:
- At 8:48 PM (LFT), Brother Stare ate some kibble, ignorant of the snacks beside it.
- At 9:36 PM (LFT), Brother Stare ate kibble at the feeder. He glanced at the snack dispenser but nothing was donated.
October 29, 2024:
- At 8:33 AM (LFT), Brother Stare ate from the bowl while looking upwards every so often.
- At 10:06 AM (LFT), Brother Stare ate from the pile of food that had gathered. He kept looking up, as though anticipating more food to drop. A few minutes later, the feeder granted his wish, and he was quick to paw at the offerings. He then stared directly up into the snack dispenser and pawed at it, despite nothing being dispensed. Eventually, he gave up and went to sit in a corner to allow a white cat to eat. He left at around 10:16 AM.
- At 3:56 PM (LFT), Brother Stare was eating when a grey cat approached and sat behind him. He was hesitant to eat for a moment but continued when they did not do anything else.
- At 6:01 PM (LFT), Brother Stare sat in the feeder and cleaned his paw. After a few licks, he spaced out and stared at seemingly nothing. The spell was broken by a human walking past.
October 30, 2024:
- At 2:04 PM (LFT), Brother Stare quickly came to a black and white cat's rescue as kibble dropped from behind them. He raced in and batted at the food with his paw, taking a few in his mouth as a snack. Brother Stare's sibling entered and forced his way past to eat, effectively stopping him.
- At 4:16 PM (LFT), Brother Stare sat close to the bowl and waited to see if any food would drop, staring closely. There wasn't long to wait as food was quickly dispensed. He had his paws ready and batted at the food with incredible speed. Unfortunately, his presumed sibling pushed into the feeder, preventing him from staring up close. He accepted the new position and continued his guard, not even glancing at the pile of food below.

November 2024

November 10, 2024: At 11:02 AM (LFT), Brother Stare crouched and prepared for snacks to fall as though hunting prey.
November 11, 2024:
- At 6:42 AM (LFT), Brother Stare swatted at kibble as it fell. He stood by afterward, glancing between each dispenser.
- At 12:01 PM (LFT), Brother Stare seemingly got his claw stuck while pawing at the snack dispenser. He tilted his head with wide, curious eyes.
- At 4:06 PM (LFT), Brother Stare sat in front of the bowl and happily looked into the front camera. He glanced at a cat walking past before getting up close to the kibble dispenser, guarding it closely.
