Mr. Tarp is a mostly white tabby that appears at Huanzi Animal Rescue Base. His name comes from an appearance where he played with the clear tarps hanging over the shelter's floor-to-ceiling windows for a long time, ending up in many funny poses. He was first sighted by the global community on July 14, 2024.
Behavior
Mr. Tarp is not a very aggressive cat. If there are other cats nearby when food is dropped, he does not mind if they get to the food first. If another cat is eating, and he wants to eat, he will either wait his turn or slowly make his way over to the food bowl. He sometimes relaxes in or near the feeder, watching other cats eat.
Mr. Tarp is a pretty silly guy. As his name suggests, he likes to play with the clear tarps over the grates seen behind the feeder. He has been seen eating plants from outside through these grates.
Appearance
Mr. Tarp is a mostly white brown tabby. The few patches of color seen on him include a roughly heart-shaped patch on his forehead, over his left eye; a large, irregularly-shaped blob on his lower back; and a single, almost perfectly circular patch on his one side. His tail is also entirely brown.
Sightings
July 2024
- July 14, 2024:
- At 1:43 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp poked his head in the feeder. He looked at the empty bowl, deciding whether or not he would wait for food. He ultimately decided against it, and left a minute later.
- At 7:03 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp approached the feeder after food was dropped for Inkspot. He politely sat right outside, watching Inkspot eat. After Inkspot got snacked, Mr. Tarp nonchalantly laid down in front of the food pile (during this time, the feeder bowl was broken, and any food dropped hit the floor). At 7:06, when Inkspot left, Mr. Tarp began to eat. Mr. Swirly and Mrs. Kind soon arrived at the feeder to watch. Mr. Tarp left at 7:12.
- At 8:00 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp came back for more. He left a minute later.
- July 16, 2024:
- At 2:15 AM (LFT), Mr. Tarp was seen in the feeder, watching a tux eat. When the tux left, Mr. Tarp began to eat. He left a minute later.
- At 9:09 AM (LFT), Mr. Tarp entered the feeder. He looked at the bowl, then laid down. He hung out while another cat ate. At 9:21, when Radical Man was about to enter the feeder, Mr. Tarp left.
- At 2:09 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp was seen laying down next to the feeder, leaning against it, while Cousin Chill laid on the other side of the feeder.
- July 18, 2024:
- At 1:53 AM (LFT), Mr. Tarp entered the feeder. He sat down, looking at the bowl, then decided to eat what was already in there. At 1:56, he left the feeder, then walked back across the feeder, showing off the one black patch on his side.
- At 3:54 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp was seen eating at the feeder. He left a couple of minutes later.
- July 19, 2024: At 1:52 AM (LFT), Mr. Tarp was seen laying in the feeder while Mr. Citrine ate. After Mr. Citrine left, Cousin Chill showed up. Inkspot entered a few seconds later, and they both stared at Mr. Tarp very hard (he was not looking in their direction while they did this). He left at 1:55.
- July 22, 2024: Around 12:30 PM (LFT), Mr. Tarp was seen playing with the tarp on the left side of the feeder. He got up, walked to the feeder and smelled the food that was dropped for him, then went to play with the tarp on the right side of the feeder. While he was playing, he got himself caught up in it and ended up in some funny poses, but he found his way out. While over there, he also ate some plants from outside through the grate.
