Mr. Ponder is a black and white cat that appears at Huanzi Animal Rescue Base. Due to his more average appearance and understated personality compared to some of the other Huanzi cats, his appearances on camera were often overlooked. However, he came to notoriety on October 30, 2024, after he got on a swing seen out of Huanzi 2's back camera and proceeded to just sit on it, staring off into the distance, rather than swinging or playing. His wistful expression during this appearance, as well as his pondering session in front of the empty bowl at Huanzi 1 the next day, inspired the name of Mr. Ponder. He was first sighted by the global community on July 17, 2024.
Behavior
Mr. Ponder is not as wacky as most of the other cats at the feeder. As a result, it is easy for him to blend into the background. In his appearances, he is often seen staring as if deep in thought. He enjoys sitting on the swing, as opposed to some of the other cats, who prefer to play with the swing while sitting on the ground next to it. He is not the most assertive cat, and can be scared out of the feeder by some of the feeder's more dominant personalities. He readily eats both snacks and kibble.
Appearance
Mr. Ponder is one of many black and white cats at Huanzi Animal Rescue Base. At times, it can be difficult to tell him apart from the other cats. His back is mostly black, with a large patch extending from his tail almost all the way up to his neck. The black coloring is solely on top of his back, and does not extend to his sides or legs. The black coloring on his head extends from the bottom of his neck up his head, ending on his face, right below his ears. His tail is black.
Sightings
July 2024
- July 18, 2024:
- At 3:37 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was definitely sighted for the first time. He munched on kibble at Huanzi 2 while Mrs. Decade stood very close by, watching him.
- Around 12:15 PM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen eating kibble at Huanzi 1.
- July 19, 2024: Around 9:30 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen licking individual pieces of kibble out of a sparse section of the bowl, rather than eating from the pile of kibble on the other side of the bowl.
- July 23, 2024: At 1:58 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen eating kibble from the bowl while Azula laid at the back of the feeder, looking outside.
August 2024
- August 2, 2024: At 2:38 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen eating kibble from the feeder.
- August 10, 2024: At 12:52 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder attempted to enter the feeder and eat kibble while Cool Whip was relaxing inside. Cool Whip clawed at him ad hissed at him loudly, prompting him to quickly leave.
October 2024
- October 30, 2024:
- At 10:15 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen sitting on the swing seen through the back camera of Huanzi 2. The swing was holding completely still, and rather than attempting to play on it, Mr. Ponder simply laid on it and stared into space. This event would inspire Mr. Ponder's name.
- At 11:15 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen sitting inside of Huanzi 1, waiting for food in front of the empty bowl. He again looked deep in thought.
- October 31, 2024: At 9:52 AM (LFT), Mr. Ponder was seen eating the last few pieces of kibble out of the bowl at Huanzi 2. He then began to wait for food; more was dropped a few seconds later. While he ate, several cats, including Ms. Sunshine and The Guardian, walked over to the feeder to see if they could have a share of the food. Mr. Ponder ignored them and ate until Ms. Obsidian shooed him out of the feeder. At 10:05, Mr. Ponder returned to the feeder and ate the food that was left. While he ate, Agent Mulder sat down in the feeder and watched him eat. He ran out of the feeder a few minutes later without any obvious provocation.
